  • Bank account details — to verify your identity and send withdrawals
  • Display name — what other users see (optional)
  • Email address — when you give a donation (for receipts)
  • Request details — amount and reason when you ask for help

  • Device info — phone model, operating system, app version
  • Usage data — what screens you visit, features you use
  • Transaction history — donations given and received
  • Log data — IP address, timestamps, error reports

How We Use Your Data

  • To run the platform — process transactions, send notifications, enable features
  • To keep you safe — detect fraud, prevent abuse, verify identities
  • To improve Abegna — understand how people use the app, fix bugs, build better features
  • To communicate with you — send important updates, respond to support requests

What We Never Do

  • ❌ Sell your data — never, to anyone, for any reason
  • ❌ Share your financial needs — your requests are visible on the platform, but we don't share user data with external parties
  • ❌ Give your info to loan apps — we're not a lead-gen machine
  • ❌ Call your contacts — we don't access your phone book
  • ❌ Use your data for targeted ads — we don't run ads

Who Can See Your Information

Other Users Can See

  • Your display name (not your full bank details)
  • Your requests and how much you've raised
  • Whether you're verified
  • Your donations (unless you give anonymously)

Service Providers

We work with trusted partners to run Abegna:

  • Paystack — processes payments (they have their own privacy policy)
  • Termii — sends SMS for OTP verification
  • Cloud providers — store data securely (encrypted)

These partners only receive the minimum data needed to do their job.

Legal Requirements

We may share data if required by Nigerian law, court order, or to prevent fraud or harm.

How We Protect Your Data

  • All data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and at rest
  • Bank details are stored with extra encryption
  • We use secure, audited cloud infrastructure
  • Access to user data is strictly limited and logged
  • Regular security reviews and updates

No system is 100% secure, but we take security seriously and follow industry best practices.

Your Rights

You can:

  • Access your data — see what we have about you
  • Update your info — change your display name, etc.
  • Delete your account — and we'll delete your data
  • Export your data — get a copy of your information
  • Opt out of marketing — unsubscribe from promotional messages

Data Retention

We keep your data as long as you have an account. If you delete your account, we delete your personal data within 30 days, except:

  • Transaction records (required for accounting/legal reasons)
  • Data needed to prevent fraud (e.g., banned phone numbers)
  • Anonymized, aggregated data for analytics

Children

Abegna is for users 18 and older. We don't knowingly collect data from children. If we discover a user is under 18, we'll delete their account.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy occasionally. We'll notify you of significant changes through the app or email. Your continued use of Abegna means you accept the updated policy.
